Staples High School Athletic Fields

Wesport, Connecticut

The Staples High School athletic field project included new natural turf, drainage and irrigation. For the baseball complex, stadium style seating, new dugouts, bullpens and a new viewing plaza were created. LANDTECH worked with the Staples High School athletic department, a local parents group and the Board of Education to analyze feasibility, create schematics and guide the design and permitting process through the required agencies. LANDTECH also assisted with fundraising.

LANDTECH coordinated project development and construction from survey, contract plans and specifications and construction observation. Construction took place during a fall, winter and spring and was completed in time for the spring baseball season. That season culminated in a FCIAC Champion season for the Wreckers baseball team.

The adjacent Staples football field, track and the Ginny Parker Field Hockey Field involved a complete reconstruction of the school’s existing fields. These projects utilized synthetic turf to replace natural grass, and Land-Tech provided project coordination from the initial stages of the project to completion, including survey, construction planning and specification, civil engineering and construction oversight.

Staples High School’s Wreckers soccer team had amassed 12 State Titles, 27 Conference Titles and more than 30 Divisional Titles on the field behind Staples High School, yet seating adjacent to the parking lot retaining wall behind the school remained a challenge to their loyal fans for years.

LANDTECH worked with local parents and the Board of Education to create a solution: “Terrace the Hill” — large rectangular slabs of granite set deep into adjoining steep grassy slopes, forming a natural amphitheater.

LANDTECH oversaw feasability studies, site planning, civil engineering and negotiated the permitting process. The field and improvements included new drainage, irrigation, and a viewing plaza providing access to the Terrace and seating for physically challenged fans. LANDTECH also assisted with Fundraising.
